Video: Migrating SharePoint Site Libraries

MigrationWiz makes it easy to move a SharePoint documents library from one Microsoft 365 tenant to another. And our tutorial video makes it easy to learn how it’s done. In under 20 minutes you’ll watch the step-by-step migration process using live demo accounts and real data.

Mark, our migration expert, shows you how to set up the endpoints, create your project, load the data, and execute the migration. He also drops a few handy tips along the way. For this type of project, he’ll use the Shared Document license. This video is a must-view before you embark on a documents migration project in a Microsoft environment.

What You’ll Learn in this Video

Assuring a smooth migration includes creating a SharePoint site at the destination that will receive your document library. Mark will show you two options for doing this: Creating the site first, or building it as part of the migration process. He also demonstrates how permission structures transfer from one site to the other as long as the names and groups are the same.

Here’s what else you’ll learn:

Assigning permissions. The companion help center article for SharePoint site library migrations includes detailed instructions for assigning permissions. There are two options – delegated authentication and app-based authentication. You’ll see which option is preferable for ease of setup and better control during the project.

Setting up the security group and service account. You’ll learn how to set these up properly to enable full control on both the source and target destination.

Navigating the MigrationWiz console. Once the source and destination are ready and permissions have been applied, you’ll go into MigrationWiz and create a new document project.

Adding application permissions. This Advanced Option is important for connecting MigrationWiz to the SharePoint backend.

Adding items to the project. Autodiscover will automatically find all of the sites available for your migration. Once they’ve been discovered, you just need to hit a button to import items into your project.

Verify credentials and run the migration. As with other MigrationWiz projects, you can choose either a pre-stage or full migration. Mark provides parameters for your decision, including the size, timing, and logistics of the project.

Every MigrationWiz tutorial video is done with live data, so you can understand what’s happening at each step. That includes seeing actual documents move from the source to the target destination and verifying success by reviewing the project summary in the MigrationWiz console.

Tips for a Smooth SharePoint Migration

Mark shares some important tips for a smooth migration. If you plan to change the name of the SharePoint site during your migration, you’ll see how that’s done. And If you’re migrating more than 15GB of data, you’ll learn how to prevent timeout errors with Advanced Options.

Careful preparation is key to every successful migration, and one way to do that is by reviewing the BitTitan help center article in advance. There you’ll find a list of what items will and won’t be migrated in a SharePoint library project. Check this list before getting started so you know what to expect.

In just a few minutes you’ll learn everything you need in order to plan and execute a SharePoint site library migration. Whatever kind of migration project you’ve got in the works, we’ve got a free video to show you how. Check out the complete library of BitTitan tutorial videos today.
