Google Throttling Issue Has Been Resolved
MigrationWiz gives you a whole lot of control over nearly every aspect of your migration. And yet, one issue has been vexing – until now. If you’ve tried using the Google API to migrate Business Gmail, you may have encountered stuck or delayed processing migration due to Google’s API configurations and throttling. That’s the throttling gremlin saying you’ve exceeded Google’s mysterious API request limit.
Good news – the BitTitan product team has been collaborating directly with Google on this issue and has implemented necessary algorithms to mitigate their throttling. If you’ve been using the recommended IMAP connector workaround for your Google migrations, you can go back to using the Google API.
What if I’m in the middle of a Gmail migration?
If you followed our recommendation to use the IMAP connector as a workaround for your Google migrations, you can switch over to the API method even if you’re in the middle of a migration. Just don’t re-run the mailboxes that have already been moved to avoid ending up with duplicates at the destination.
What is throttling?
Larger platforms often have caps on throughput and file size in order to manage cybersecurity threats. Some platforms will give you parameters to stay within so you can assure a smooth migration.
Could the throttling problem come back?
The BitTitan team has alleviated the throttling problem, and you can resume using Google API for your migrations. Keep in mind, however, that MigrationWiz interacts with many different platforms including Google and Microsoft, and their policies and practices are not within our control. We do closely monitor any changes the platforms are making, and address them with product updates as necessary.
How can throttling be avoided?
We’re currently seeing healthy throughput speeds of 1 up to 1.5 Gigabytes per hour with MigrationWiz. You can avoid stoppages by limiting the number of concurrent mailbox migrations starting at 250 and adjust as needed depending on how the migration performance is behaving. If you’re working with a larger number of mailboxes, you can stage your migration within MigrationWiz.
