Top 10 MSP Marketing Activities for a Weekend

I recently posted that, according to our research, many IT services providers work on the weekends. Well, if you’re going to do it, here’s our list of the top 10 MSP marketing activities the working dead can do:

  • Come up with a list of different stages of the buying process, such as: 1-awareness of a problem, 2-research to find solutions, 3-specific questions they would ask to solution providers like your company.
  • Answer the questions above in writing. You can use this as blog material for your site or extra handouts when you meet prospects.
  • Hand-write thank you cards to clients, partners, and prospects. Nobody does this anymore, so you’ll stand out and be remembered.
  • Write case studies of current clients. Quick format: Issue they faced, Problem it caused, Solution they implemented, Results they got.
  • Draft a checklist to train new staff, even if you’re the only person doing sales right now. Include everything you’ve observed about what works and what doesn’t (the latter is very important in training). When you grow, you won’t have time to write this document, so having it ready now will help you later.
  • Do research on LinkedIn to identify new potential partnership opportunities, not just prospects.
  • Send an email to prospects to start a dialog. Even when their office is closed, almost everyone still checks email.
  • Read books that you’ve been meaning to get to but haven’t had the time. Here’s a good one on MSP marketing: The IT Marketing Crash Course, written by yours truly.
  • Decompress. Play golf, go for a bike ride. It will allow your mind to breathe and you’ll be more productive when you’re back at the office.
  • Call your mother, or a family member or friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. You’ll feel better, and so will they.
