New Video: Migrating from Google Shared Drive to SharePoint

There are many reasons you might find yourself migrating from Shared Drive to SharePoint Online. Often this kind of migration happens as the result of a merger or acquisition, but it can also result from a strategy to consolidate onto the Microsoft 365 platform. MigrationWiz makes cross-platform migrations easy, especially with step-by-step tutorial videos from an expert.

The stakes in a document migration are simple to understand, but they’re high. MigrationWiz gives you all the tools—and help—to make sure everything that’s supposed be migrated lands in the correct location and is easy to find when the project is complete.

What You’ll Learn in this Video

Follow along as Mark, our migration expert, performs a full migration project, moving Google Shared Drives to SharePoint using a live demo account. This project includes setup steps within Google Cloud and Microsoft 365. You’ll see how to:

Set up the Google side. You’ll see how to find and enable the correct APIs within the Google Cloud admin site so that MigrationWiz has access to the data. Then, a service account is created so MigrationWiz is able to connect to the project.

Prepare for incoming data. Within the Microsoft 365 admin site you’ll learn how create a new location for the data that’s coming from Shared Drive and give MigrationWiz access and  the right permissions.

Creating the migration project. The next step is to create a document migration project within MigrationWiz, then set up the source and destination endpoints.

Adding sites to the project. Using auto discover, it takes only a couple minutes to find Shared Drives and bring them into the project. This step also validates that the API and connections were configured properly. Once drives have been found, you will see how to specify exactly where they will go in SharePoint.

Using Advanced Options. MigrationWiz includes settings that help you eliminate timeout issues, shrink the folder maximum length, and replace invalid characters. A thorough Help Desk article outlines Advanced Options that can be used to customize your projects and make sure they’re completed smoothly.

Running the migration. Since the demo project in the video is a simple migration, it’s completed with one pass, but you’ll also learn how a pre-stage migration can be beneficial for a larger project.

Post-migration. Before users log in for their next workday, you’ll want to verify that everything went as planned during the migration. In this video you’ll see how to check that the migration was successful and how to handle any errors.

We Sweat the Details

As we’ve developed MigrationWiz and worked with IT professionals, we’ve come to understand that the details are important in making sure users are satisfied at the end of a migration project. For example, when files are migrated with MigrationWiz—even across platforms—they retain their original date rather than having it changed migration day. We know that’s not a small thing.

Our how-to video series is growing, and IT teams are finding that it can take less than an hour to seriously expand their migration skills. You can view the one you need as you’re planning your project, then let it be your guide as you run your migration. For help getting started with a project, contact us or your preferred distributor.
