New Video: Migrating OneDrive with the UMB

So, you’ve just completed a mailbox migration and now you need to move OneDrive accounts for the same users. Easy – especially if you’re using MigrationWiz User Migration Bundle (UMB) licenses. This video will show you how.

Mark, our migration expert, demonstrates how to perform a OneDrive migration starting from setup all the way through to completion. As you follow along with his live sample project, Mark will seamlessly move OneDrive accounts to a new Microsoft tenant.

What You’ll Learn in this Video

This video works well for training or as a refresher. You can also run it side-by-side as you work on your project. It’s a valuable companion to the Help Center article that details everything you need to know, including how to use app-based authentication and place the application registration into your source and destination (target) tenants. Here are the steps:

Setting up a MigrationWiz security group. After verifying that you have MigrationWiz service accounts on both the source and destination tenants, you’ll place them into the security group on the source tenant.

Running SharePoint full control. You’ll see how to run SharePoint full control on both tenants in order to place the application registration. This adds the permissions you need to execute the migration.

Configuring the project in MigrationWiz. This involves creating a document project, naming it, and assigning it to a customer.

Setting up the endpoints. See an explanation of the different options you can choose when you set up the endpoints for your migration.

Using Advanced Options. There are both required and optional Advanced Option settings for a OneDrive migration. Mark discusses which ones to use and where to find the necessary information in the Help Desk article.

Adding items to the project. There are options here, too. The video uses a ‘bulk add’ approach.

OneDrive provisioning. You’ll learn how to create and use PowerShell commands to provision OneDrive for all of the accounts. Before kicking off the migration, you’ll check the provisioning using the MigrationWiz console.

Executing the migration. In the video you can watch as the data comes over into the target tenant and see how to verify that the migration has been completed as designed.

Cleaning up post-migration. Recommended best practices include a final step – removing the application registration and service account once you’ve verified that the migration is complete.

The UMB Has You Covered

With the User Migration Bundle (UMB) license for MigrationWiz you can migrate mailboxes, documents, and archives for $15 per user. The license also includes Outlook configuration with DeploymentPro. In this sample OneDrive project, you’ll see how the UMB licenses are automatically applied because a mailbox migration for that user had already been done – no need to take time matching users with licenses.

It takes about 25 minutes to learn what you need to know for a OneDrive migration – including a little bit of PowerShell. Find more MigrationWiz tutorials in the BitTitan library where you can learn everything from beginner skills to cross-platform migrations and unique processes.
